Final Portfolio Assessment


1) Participation- this category includes all of the factors around your ability to participate and the quality of your participation of in-class activities. Some things to consider would include: attendance and punctuality, wearing gym strip (actual change of clothing from what you wear the rest of the day),  physical presence/activity level during games, intensity of participation, skill level in various games, and the motivation behind your selection of activities on choice days. Missing “sometimes” or having “no strip” more than once or twice should result in a failing mark here.

During this course, I believe that I have participated very well. I come to class on time, with gym strip and my physical activity level during games and activities is high. I try my best to stay motivated during choice days, although my motivation begins to lack when there are large groups of people who are not participating, but regardless I still try my best and I think that's what matters. I try my best not to sit out of class, but that only reason I do is due to injuries.


2) Social Responsibility and Contribution to the Class- this category includes all of the factors that led to your improving skills around working with peers to make everyone's experience more successful. Some things to consider would include: examples of leadership (organizing others, encouraging peers), examples of initiative (helping with equipment, helping with other classes WITHOUT being asked to), positive energy and social dynamic during activities, honesty during competition and on fitness scores, and connections with the community/volunteering. Needing reminders from a teacher to do the above items negates their impact… thus resulting in a failing grade here. If you need to be talked to, you didn’t do well.

During classes when we conjoin with other classes I like encourage the other kids, especially the younger grades (mostly the girls) because I guess sometimes they feel timid towards whatever games we do because they're a little bit more challenging or they haven't played it before, or they just don't feel like participating. I feel that I bring a positive energy when I encourage other people, especially the kids in our class. I try my hardest to make sure that games are played fairly, even though most kids would just want to cheat and completely diminish the whole point of the game. I'm honest when writing my fitness scores, because it honestly wouldn't make a difference to my personal health if I was to lie about. 

3) Healthy Living - this category includes all aspects of your past, current, and future data and goals on your health and fitness. Some of the things to consider would include: your actual fitness scores and what they teach you, noteworthy changes in your fitness, some of the barriers/limitations you face in participating, dietary choices and extra curricular activity choices and their impact on overall health, injury prevention, management, and rehabilitation, and future plans/goals for overall health choices. This is the connecting piece between class and life… if you have no evidence of choices/activities outside of class you should be failing this section.

I would say that my life is lived relatively healthy. I try my best to eat well and my mom has really helped me with by substituting all the bad, processed crap with organic fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads, etc. I've completely cut pop out of my diet, and haven't had it for almost a year (and I'm proud of it!). My fitness scores really help me reflect on how my fitness is and has helped me create new goals for myself, such as trying my best to do some type of physical activity every day including things like playing softball, practicing for softball games, running on the treadmill for at least 30 minutes, going to the park and playing some soccer, football, or tennis with my guy friends, etc. This has really helped me lose weight, which is one of my biggest goals, and I really hope that I stay fit when I get out of high school. Gaining more weight after high school is a fear of mine because a lot of physical activity happens from gym, but I know that I've learnt different types of ways to do fitness outside of school thanks to all the p.e. classes I've been in. 

4) Digital Portfolio and Reflective skills: this category includes all aspects of your blog posts. Some of the things to consider would include: the total collection of digital evidence and number of posts, the quality of the selection of evidence as a demonstration of learning, the quality of the summaries/explanation of the evidence (with reflection of effort, new learning cited, research included, and future goals/plans set), the usefulness of comments on peers blog entries as a part of socially constructed learning and assessment, and your ability to synthesize your entries into a summative final post which provides evidence for your learning.

I know I haven't really posted that much, I think I have a total of 6 posts, but I usually go quite in depth with each post, making sure i don't forget anything. I have reflected my efforts and have really assessed myself during this class. I have learned a lot during this course and I know it will help me in the future. I've enjoyed myself very much in this class and I'm sad that it'll be over in a week :(

Report Card 14/04/2014

Report Card

For the first half of the semester, I would say that I deserved an A. Throughout the course so far, I've attended every class unless excused, and I always participate. I try my best to show my leadership skills, but sometimes but my efforts get over shadowed. The only classes I haven't participated in were ones due to injuries from softball or me being a klutz, but other than that, I come to every class with my gym strip ready to work. I try my best during fitness and choice, even though sometimes it won't be my favourite thing to do. I have gone to every field trip, and enjoyed both of them very much! I hope we go on many more, but many people have other interests and may decide not to go, which causes our class to miss out on some really great experiences. Outside of class I keep active by playing on a rep softball team, and try my best to work out when I have free time at the YMCA with my friends. This is my favorite class and I enjoy it very much! I feel like I've done a large amount of things to deserve a 95% in this class and I hope that I've showed enough effort to receive it.

Interim Post

During the course of the semester, I've been given the chance to evaluate my strengths and weaknesses and things I could improve on. So far, I would say that my strengths would be my participation in class including block wide activities such as fitness or choice with other classes or class activities. Gym has always been my favorite subject in school, so it's never been hard to enjoy it, so I would say my attitude and energy are at good levels. I always bring gym strip and I'm always on time for class, so that would be a good strength as well. I also help clean up or set up for games or choice.  For my weaknesses, I show some leadership skills, but I could definitely improve on that. Sometimes I let other people take charge instead of me and just roll with whatever, but I feel like could do a little more with that, such as encouraging more kids to participate, rather than just doing my own thing. I also don't blog enough, mostly because I forget so that area needs a lot of work. In terms of barriers, the only things that could be holding me back would be either being sick, or whatever muscle or joint pains I get. For areas that I could improve on fitness wise, I could work on my stamina. Stamina has always been a problem for me, trying to keep the same pace, when all I play are sports that focus on sprinting for short distances rather than running for longer periods of times, and keeping a good heart rate. The interval pond run (1minute on - 1 minute off) is a good way for me to control it and it always help. Outside of class, I maintain a pretty healthy lifestyle. I eat well, and I'm currently playing rep B softball. Along with that, I work out at home, and will soon start going to the YMCA with my dad after my scheduling is all worked out. And that has pretty much been my semester.

Personal Profile (31/01/2014)

I registered for the p.e. course because I've always taken p.e. throughout high school. I figured that I should just take it through grade 12 because I've always enjoyed the class. My favorite part of p.e. is probably the field trips because it always gives me a chance to experience exercise in a different environment. My previous personal best on the beep test is a 10. Currently, I play softball with a rep team, and also on the senior girls basketball team. I previously played field hockey earlier in the year and have played all these sports continuously for the past 5 years. Along with the sports I play, I also work out and go on runs with my dog. Things that physically prevent me from doing exercise. are my joint pains in my knees. Things that mentally prevent me from doing exercise would be the amount of time I have to work out, such as my job, school, and homework. My eating habits are good, I eat quite healthy and my mom is kind of an organic freak and prefers to buy organic fruits and vegetables. I want to be able to learn more about some new sports that I haven't played before. I want to improve my abilities in fitness, such as my stamina. Outside school activities i'd like to try is skating. My fitness goals for this semester would be to improve my stamina and overall fitness. My personal character goals would be to interact with more of my peers.
